Relationship, Sex, Health and Education
At our School, we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive and developmentally appropriate Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) curriculum that reflects the needs of our pupils and the expectations of the statutory guidance introduced in 2026.
As a specialist SEND provision for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, we recognise that many of our learners may have experienced adversity, disrupted education, attachment difficulties, trauma, or barriers to emotional regulation and healthy relationships. Our RSHE curriculum is therefore carefully adapted to ensure it is accessible and responsive to individual developmental stages.
In line with the 2026 RSHE guidance, The Greens School is committed to ensuring pupils are supported to:
- Develop safe, healthy and respectful relationships;
- Understand personal boundaries, consent and appropriate behaviour;
- Recognise and manage emotions and develop resilience;
- Understand how to seek help, report concerns and stay safe;
- Build knowledge around mental wellbeing, physical health and healthy lifestyles;
- Understand online safety, digital relationships and risks associated with social media and online content;
- Develop self-awareness, confidence and independence appropriate to their age and stage of development;
- Prepare for adulthood and participation in modern British society.
We recognise that pupils with SEND, particularly those with SEMH needs, may require explicit teaching, repetition, personalised approaches and additional support to understand relationships, safety, vulnerability, risk and social expectations. Teaching will therefore be differentiated, trauma-informed and delivered sensitively through trusted relationships with staff who know pupils well.
Our RSHE curriculum is underpinned by the values of:
- Safety and safeguarding
- Respect and dignity
- Inclusion and equality
- Emotional wellbeing and mental health
- Pupil voice and individual need
- Trust, honesty and positive relationships
At The Greens School, we work closely with families, carers, external professionals and safeguarding partners to ensure that RSHE supports pupils’ wider emotional development and helps them navigate relationships and life experiences safely and confidently.
